Updated on

529 College Savings Plan

A 529 college savings plan is a specialized savings account used to save money for college. The money in a 529 plan may be used to pay for college expenses-tax free.

Please follow the steps below to add 529 Savings Plan as payment method.

Step 1: Sign in into your BYU-I account and click on "Pay Tuition"

Step 2: Select "Make Payment"

Step 3: Select "My Account"

Step 4: Click on "Add payment method"

Step 5: Select on "529 Savings Plan" on the right hand of the screen

Step 6: Fill out the prompt with the correct information and click "Save"

If your Savings Plan Name is not listed in CashNet, you will need to request a check be sent from the Savings Plan to BYU-Idaho. Checks will need to be made out BYU-Idaho and will be mailed to:

BYU-Idaho Cashiers Office

525 S. Center Street

Rexburg, ID 83460-1625

The check for the Savings Plan should include your name and I-number. Once the Cashiers Office receives the check it will be added to your student account and marked as 529 Educational Savings. If you have any questions or need access to your funds you should call Accounting Services at 208-496-1411 for assistance.

Some 529 Savings Plans (Florida Prepaid, Texas Tomorrow, Alabama Pact, Nevada Prepaid, Mississippi Prepaid, etc.) require an invoice to be submitted from BYUI Accounting Services. If you need an invoice, call Accounting Services at 208-496-1411.

Applying 529 Savings Plan Funds to Tuition Charges:

  • 529 funds can only be put towards your tuition manually by the Accounting Office; you cannot transfer them yourself.
  • You must contact the Accounting Office in order to have your funds moved over; you call the Accounting Services at 208-496-1411, email them at [email protected], or walk in to the Accounting Office in Kimball 130.
